Shell and Tube type Condenser: As the name suggests, this type of condenser has a shell with a bundle of tubes inside. Two fluids, of different temperatures run inside the condenser, one in the tube and another outside the tubes and het is transferred from one fluid to another. The fluids can be liquid or gases, depending on the process.

Shell and Tube Condensers are also refereed to as Shell & Tube type Heat Exchangers because heat is transferred between the fluids. They can be of single phase or two-phase heat exchangers.

• No moving parts involved.
• Capable of handling high non-condensable loads.
• Occupies relatively more space.
• High capital costs as initial investments are high.
• Due to the type of condenser involved, the cooling water does not get contaminated.
• Steam and vapor condensate recovery is possible.
